“Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called HEPHZIBAH and thy land Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married.” (Isaiah 62:4)

Dominican Republic Mission Report - January 2011

Dear Friends,

Once again the HZB team was in Santiago in January to continue its work with the Haitian community. The response to our evening Bible studies and church services was tremendous. Many lives were touched, people were delivered, filled with the Holy Spirit, and children were dedicated to the Lord.

We are happy to report an appreciable growth in Pastor Amazan's church, both spiritually and in numbers. Church activities for their 80 members plus children include weekly Bible study and prayer meeting for the adults, Sunday school for the children, and Sunday Bible study followed by a church service for the whole congregation. In the past year, many have received water baptism, and several marriages were celebrated.

Our ministry witnessed firsthand the impoverished conditions in the 'batey', a Haitian community in the town of Esperanza: little or no food, houses made of carton and tin taken from dumpsters, mud floors, no electricity, no schools, one faucet of running water for the whole community. In the face of such tremendous difficulties, the people showed great courage. Men could be seen working in the nearby rice fields; women were busy washing clothes, cooking, taking care of the children; and young girls and boys worked, carrying water in buckets. We thank God that we could help some families through the distribution of clothes and toiletry items.

It has been two years since HZB began its work in the Dominican Republic, and we praise God for changing so many lives. In 2011 our outreach to the different communities in and around Santiago will continue through Bible instruction, leadership training, food and clothes distribution, as well as any other program that becomes feasible.
